Donations that have Improved the Quality of Life: Since its inception, the UAF has sought the collaboration of other non-profit organizations, as well as government and private support for some of its projects, and has donated new and used medical equipment and supplies to public hospitals, and to smaller community clinics located in impoverished neighborhoods around the city. The UAF has contributed educational materials to public schools, and has collaborated with Uruguayan charities in the acquisition of buses to organizations for the handicapped and to rural schools. It has also provided services, clothing, and miscellaneous items to Uruguayan civic organizations. In spite of the negative financial impact on non-profit organizations resulting from the tight economic situation around the world, the UAF is steadly increasing the volume of its aid, and at present is engaged in an aggressive fundraising drive in order to expand the scope of its projects.

During 2005 the emphasis of the donations was on computers for the schools (urban and rural). We have been successful in donating more than 60 units (new and used) during this year. We want to inform of a project that has been going on for a while and that has had an important impact in the number of units to donate. We have reached an agreement with the Agreste Foundation (of Argentina with a link in Uruguay) to advertise our need of computers. The process is as follows: if a person or a company wishes to donate a computer they may send us $750.00 and we will buy a new computer in Uruguay (including three years maintenance) to be donated to the school requested by the donor. That unit will bear a plaque with de donor's name and a public ceremony, with his presence if possible, will take place the day of delivery. This procedure can be done directly with UAF in USA and we are happy to inform that although this is quite a new project it has received a warm welcome. There may be many Uruguayans around the world that would like to recognize the school where they studied and to have the pleasure to visit it and remember the good times lived there. Therefore: if you wish to participate in this project contact us through the following e-mail: laguirre@erols.com. Ms. Lydia Aguirre is the President of UAF and is in charge of this program. Besides the computers, during 2005 UAF has also donated several items for Hospitals and other institutions.
